Moving companies that charge by the hour don’t have to take a full itemized inventory list. Just by knowing the size of the apartment and approximately how much your moving they can tell you if they can do the job. As since they don’t have to give you a guaranteed price, they can just commit to it and you can pay for however long it takes. Given the price isn’t guaranteed many times if a lot of materials are required for your move they can pass these costs on to you. Same goes for travel expenses, such as tickets and tolls. With Long Distance moves, we price them similar to as if you were moving down the block. Only difference being that the mileage makes up much more of the move cost. We still take a full itemized inventory list of everything you are moving so that we can adequately plan for your move. Only difference being that the mileage makes up much more of the move cost. Does anyone have recommendations for good movers in the Bay Area? Trusted Movers was recommended but they are not available on the day we need to move... thanks!

Flatrate.com used them multiple times and are really good.
Thinking of hiring professional movers to move my family's stuff From Brooklyn to Goshen NY (65 miles one way). Will need a legit 17-20' truck. Useful insights/suggestions please!!!

I used Flatrate Movers (flatrate.com). They were really efficient and careful. They have a good online price quote system, so you can just get all of the details out of the way online ahead of time. They also pack all of the big stuff for you. And, they helped me finish up some of the things I hadn't gotten to packing by the time they arrived. Easiest move I've had (BK up to Inwood).
A friend of mine is moving, and she needs a moving company, can anyone suggest a reliable moving company...she needs it asap! Thank you...

I used Flatrate.com . They will come to your house to access your belongings and give you a price. Were very prompt, wrapped all furniture carefully and did the job quickly. Maybe not the cheapest...but didn't break a thing!
LA Friends: I have a quote from a mover. Any recommendations for your favorite company?

We used Flat Rate Movers - they had good yelp reviews and they really were amazing with us and stuck to the rate. They were quick but not one thing was damaged. http://m.flatrate.com/
Movers? Building requires insured movers so no "man with a van" for me. Any Recommendations? Who do you like, who don't you like?
Thanks

I've used Movers Not Shakers (www.moversnotshakers.com) 3 times and been very happy. In general, make sure you get a flat rate (not by the hour). Get quotes from two movers and have them compete (I usually call FlatRate as well http://www.flatrate.com/). You can usually negotiate the total cost as well as items like free packing boxes, etc... edit: added links
