About us
We know. It’s quinoa.
A versatile, unassuming, mega-nutritious plant that’s also rather delicious. But we say “Keenwah” to keep it simple and real, like the plant and, we hope you’ll agree, the store named after it.
We’re of the mind that tasty foods, whether gourmet or down home, should be all-access, meant for everyday eating. There’s nothing inherently snobby about any food. We’ve never come across a plant or grain that thought it was the best thing since sliced bread (so to speak). Respectfully grown or raised, clean and healthy foods help create a more inquisitive and satisfied palette, healthier living and a sustainable planet. So you’re invited to shop and eat at Keenwah in a casual, neighborly atmosphere.
Here’s what guides our gastronomic compass:
Stuffed olives are fabulous. Stuffed shirts are not.
We know we’re serving lunch, not curing cancer. (Preventing it, maybe, but not curing it.) Food is basic stuff, and we want to help you find new things to crave, so we have a “no pretension” policy. Ask anyone of us how to pronounce, choose or prepare something and you’ll get a friendly, knowledgeable reply.
Know what your foods are made of.
Eating well starts with knowing what you’re eating. We believe in keeping it simple and healthy, even in a dish or product that has exotic spices and 20 ingredients. That alone pretty much guarantees better tasting, better for you foods, whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, carnivorous, locally minded, super healthy or completely devoid of opinions.
Food is one of life’s great pleasures.
Gnocchi, edamame, soy milk, almond butter and many more delicious, nutritious foods don’t wind up in as many happy bellies as they should. Being unfamiliar shouldn’t be a barrier to enjoying new, tasty foods, including kitchen staples like cereal, ground beef or bread in their healthier, locally grown versions.
That’s the Keenwah story. We hope you’ll come by often to try new things, stock up on old... show more
