Need some advise, i got the call from mechanic, my 03 cobra engine needs replacing. It's knocking pretty bad. Recently purchased, was running perfect, putting down like 514whp, ported blower, lowered, intake, exhaust, pulleys, tune and few other things. Was driving normal and all of a sudden starter to hear little knock, limped it home and knock got louder. Checked dip stick, no oil on it. Checked it a few days later and still no oil. Did oil change and about 2 quarts came out. Put 6 in, started the car, it was kinda quiet when idle but when given gas, the knock came back. Had towed to shop and got the call from mechanic. Car starts and runs and can be driven but knock is loud, sounds like coming from bottom. What are my most cost effective options? I don't have a lot of money, I plan on spending around 5k on it to get it running good and sell it. Or might consider selling with bad motor, it's a very good looking clean car, everything works perfect, has custom enclosure in trunk, Clean title, no accidents, 99k on the clock, I drove it less than 1k, Tranny shifts perfect, rear end is great, for like $13k, to cut my loss, but don't feel like getting low balled all day.
a) I seen remanufactured engines for like 4k with 3 year warranty, anyone had experience with those? highly considering it, but Idk if they were rebuilt by ford or who.
b) tearing down and rebuilding what I have? I don't do this type of deep engine work so I have to pay someone to tear it down, order parts (stock or a little above stock) , and reassemble it and hope that everything was done correctly and it runs good. Mechanic says someone has already done some work to the engine because the head studs have been replaced.
c) get a used engine out of a wrecked cobra and drop in
any other suggestions or experiences???
Thanks in advance
