My husband and I are planning a horse camping trip to the western TN / KY area in October.
We are looking for a place that can accommodate our 36' camper and offers lots of trails. We pull our camper with a horse van and can take the horses to other trails on the van, so we can stay at the same campsite for 2-3 weeks.
Any recommendations on nice places to base camp with nearby easy trails for an older horse?
Thanks in Advance,
Elaine

Mammoth Cave Horse camp. We stayed at Double J last year and I would never go there again or advise anyone to go there. Owners were jerks. Yelling at people. One person had truck trouble arrived after dark. Owners wouldn't let them into camp till daylight, they couldn't unload the horses. I had to camps to choose from and I chose wrong. Go to Mammoth

There have been a couple of comments about trail access from Mammoth Cave Horse Camp. We are located 50 yards from the First Creek Trail head, which means that 50 yards out of camp you are directly on the trails in Mammoth Cave National park with 2 choices as to which direction to ride. No need for a long ride on a gravel road to get to the trails. We have direct access to the most popular trail "Wet Prong" in the park, it starts at First Creek Trail Head. That being said you can ride the same trails from any camp, you just access them from different directions. Thanks for all of the kind words about our camp; we love hosting the wonderful folks that visit Mammoth Cave Horse Camp.

I agree Mammoth Cave Horse Camp is the best. Super clean well laid out facility and the hospitality of the owner Kevin and his staff is incredible. They take time to get to know you and make sure all your needs are met. On his organized ride events food is great and usually has a band play in the pavilion that has a really cool stone fireplace which always has a fire going on cool nights. It is definitely one of our "go to" places through out the year.

We stayed at Mammoth Cave Horseman's Camp www.mammothcavehorsecamp.com it is a 5 star campground. We were there in January of 2014 and had the place to ourselves. Good riding and well maintained place. Owner was super accommodating. We like to trail ride with our dogs and that was no problem. Trails were great.
Looking to go out of state next spring and was wondering if there are any good camp grounds in Kentucky or Ohio. Been to Shawnee Illinois, so anything but that in Illinois. Let me know of any good ones please!
Hoping to take a trip with the horses starting from south central PA up to Winconsin . Not sure best route. We nomally drive (without horses) from PA, thru MD. Then into Virginia, then West Virginia, then Kentucky, south Indiana. Then southern Illinois... then up towards Wisconsin (where some family live).
What would you all recommend for must stop places to camp and ride? One I get the truck and trailer as far as Illinois, getting the family to meet up with me there would be easy. Buy I have no ideas where to camp with the horses. I was to interception horse camping to some younger family members later this summer . I will have brought sweet beginner horses for the family to tide and enjoy.
Suggestions please

Hey FB friends! I was hoping to get a few recommendations for some place to stay with my horse.
You see, my aunt and uncle are driving my horse down from Michigan to Tennessee. Its a pretty long drive, about 12 hours (and that's without hauling horses). So to break it up they are needing a place to stay over night with my horse, preferably in Kentucky or even southern Indiana.
Does anyone have a favorite place they like to stay with their horse while travelling through these two states. Would like to stay near I65. Thank you all for any information!
Gregg M. replied:
Mammoth Cave Horse Camp in Mammoth Ky would be about 30 miles off I-65 south of Louisville. http://www.mammothcavehorsecamp.com/
I'm looking for some recommendations on a place to stop overnight with 2 horses on our way through Kentucky, as close to interstate 65 as possible, preferably somewhere between Elizabethtown and Bowling Green. We will be on our way to NBHA Youth Worlds in Perry, GA. Were looking for a place with electric hookups for our trailer and pasture to put the horses in so they can move around and stretch. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!
Gregg M. replied:
Agree Mammoth Cave Horse Camp. Its going to be about 30 minutes off I-65. http://www.mammothcavehorsecamp.com/
Looking for best horse camps and places to ride in Kentucky, Tennessee, or Virginia please. We are also wanting to purchase a GPS system for horseback riding but have no idea what a good one is or what to look for. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
