BE AWARE 4/22 I interviewed Mike Livingston to convert my wood-burning fireplace to a gas fireplace in my main living room. Mike comes off knowledgeable & charismatic but is a conartist-BEWARE.In my prior home we had a gas fireplace with a switch that controlled on/off and this is what we are looking to get. I showed him standard fireplaces. Our requirement-a standard fireplace. He needed a deposit of $1,760-given on 4/22. May comes-no contact. I reached out to check on the fireplace & he said its backordered. 3months- no fireplace finally on 7/22 I told him if the order/material is not in by end of July I want to cancel & get my moneyback. I got a call stating part of the order comes in-I told him again if my order/material is not in (ALL of IT) then I want my deposit back/cancel. He never contacted me May, June, July- I always had to follow up. 8/1/22 he said my fireplace is in and he's ready to do the job. August 4th-he came to do the fireplace install around 7:30am & finished 4pm. Immediately seeing it, we we told him how unhappy we were. Unhappy with his work & we told him same day. The fireplace is open-DIY job. I have kids/pets- it cannot be open. I told him its not done right. A major eyesore. No glass enclosing it. Immediately asked him to remove it- refund our deposit as we can see his workmanship/quality is very poor. He said "I gave you what you you wanted". Repeatedly tell him and show him pictures of the fireplace we wanted. Used dated gold plate materials, unproportional unit to the size of my open- outlet box placed front with no glass covering. County said permit must be completed prior to install gas line. HE DID NOT DO THIS He did not pull permits-he installed the gas line without a permit or inspection.NONE OF WHICH HE DID! We feel so unsafe with a gas line without getting it permitted or inspected. We confronted him about this; he said I can call them now to get it inspected. He took $1760-I did not pay him the remaining balance-dissatisfied.
