as a retired hvac contractor buy the most eff, you can 16 seer or better I like the variable speed carrier units they dehumidify much better and are quieter I have a 19 seer variable speed heat pump in our house no electric heat it runs low speed almost all the time and you cant here it its not cheap but worth it .. http://www.carrier.com/.../heat.../split-system-heat-pumps/
