We have an elderly relative in her late 90s who has lived in the Plumstead area all her life. Although she is still mentally very active and loves a good natter she has recently become too frail to live on her own. We're told she needs nursing care rather than residential care because she cannot get out of a chair unaided but there are apparently no suitable nursing places in Greenwich even though, having a house, she is able (and required) to pay the costs herself. The few nursing beds available locally seem in homes mainly for people with strokes and the like or dementia which would not provide the mental stimulation she needs. She wants to stay in the area so she can continue to be visited by friends and family.
Does anyone know of a home near to Plumstead that could provide nursing care within a stimulating environment? Alternatively has anyone experience of having a relative living with them. What kind of support is available both to the elderly person and to the family she'd be living with? How can it be organised? Who would be good to contact for advice or help?
