e owner of this company, Mark Williams, STOLE $6,000 from us. He is a scam artist and "Vision Wood Works" has recently disappeared into thin air (the company's website has been removed). Mark Williams claims to have had this company for "over 20 years", but our lawyer found that the LLC associated with Vision Wood Works is from 2015: "Vision Woodworks LLC is a North Carolina Limited-Liability Company filed on August 10, 2015. The company's filing status is listed as Current-Active and its File Number is 1462735. The Registered Agent on file for this company is Business Filings International, Inc. and is located at 150 Fayetteville St., Box 1011, Raleigh, NC 27601. The company's principal address is 9306 Stawell Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078 and its mailing address is 9306 Stawell Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078."
This is a very common contractor SCAM; establish an LLC (limited liability corporation), give your "business" a name (i.e."Vision Wood Works"), steal tons of money from unwitting customers promising to provide contractor services for them that will never actually be provided, and then close down your LLC and your "business". The LLC protects Mark Williams and dirtbags like him from being sued as an individual which means that you cannot recoup your money from his personal bank account(s) or assets (house, car, etc.).
The next step is to open a new LLC, establish a new "business" under a new name, and start the scam all over again.
We paid him 6K on a 10K fence job for our residence. He promised to "fast track" us b/c he knew we needed the fence in early March. Nearly 4 months went by with him promising to start "tomorrow" or "next week for sure" several times/week, via text. He never actually bought any materials for our job and he never set foot on our property, nor did any of his imaginary crew. He simply took our 6K and intended to keep it. When we came in with our attorneys Mark Williams changed his story from "being too backed up with difficult jobs" to "I've lost my entire crew and other people have driven my 20+ year business into the ground". I'm not sure what he meant by sharing this sob story because my husband and I are not in the habit of giving 6K interest free loans that never need to be repaid to charlatan contractors who are having money trouble.
Anyhow, the good news is that we used a credit card to pay Mark Williams and we were able to submit this matter to the credit card dispute center. Based on the story above I doubt you're surprised to hear that the credit card company found the case to be in our favor. The good news is that the credit card can actually sue Mark Williams as a person (he cannot hide behind his LLC from them) and they will get their 6K back. Lesson learned: always use a credit card to pay a contractor unless you trust that contractor 100%. That's really the only way to protect yourself from scam artists like Mark Williams.
So, how did we fall for this guy? Well, he was recommended by someone in the community on Facebook (Charlotte Moms Group). He didn't have any Yelp reviews and I should have been suspicious of that. In all of his interactions with us he was very friendly and eager to do business (readily avail. by phone, email, etc.). I'm sure you can imagine how all that changed after he collected his free money. My attorneys uncovered that he was actually using an alias...he was not using the name Mark Williams when he represented himself as the owner of "Vision Wood Works"! He was going by "Mike" at the time, but who knows who he'll call himself the next time he victimizes a homeowner.
Avoid this scummy dude at all costs. His old website (again, recently removed) has a whole bit about his "love for God" and a general statement of faith. Very creepy move Mark, to attempt to engender trust by citing your relationship with God. Lying, cheating, and stealing are certainly not in keeping with what any Higher Power would want, I am sure.
He's got dark hair, is of medium to stocky build, and medium height (my guess would be 6' and maybe around 215 lb.). He's in his early to mid 40's...I'm thinking he was probably born sometime around '73.
Make darn well sure that you DO NOT hire any contractor for any service who's LLC is affiliated with Mark William's address: 9306 Stawell Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078
He's also running this scam down in Florida and I do not know if he has a separate address down there with which to affiliate his LLCs.
