  Hello lovely OLLers! I'm going to New York City on Friday (from London) and I want to take advantage of being able to buy vintage without paying the import taxes! What are the best vintage shops for 40s and 50s? I'll be staying in Williamsburg but happy to travel around. Thanks so much in advance, could do with some insider knowledge! :)

  Hi Clea Hodgson! You're going to have so much fun! We have lived in Williamsburg over 20 years, and in general, the vintage there tends to be more 60 s/70 s. But take a stroll along Bedford Ave., N 5 th,6 th and 7 th st and you can hit a few. But- on Saturday, I highly recommend going to the city- you can hit Chelsea Antique Market , a flea market on 25 th st between 6 th and 7 th Ave-and then the ultimate vintage store, in my opinion, NY Vintage,which is just across the street. Bargains can be found at the Chelsea Market, but not at NY Vintage. But you will simply be amazed at this store- the collection is utterly mind blowing.
