The information I am finding online is conflicting (should they charge by weight or by cubic foot? is it bad if they require a deposit?), and though the Internet seems to agree that in-person visits are best, many of the national companies I talk to seem to prefer estimating the price using an online inventory form, rather than coming all the way out to my one bedroom apartment.   We had a great experience moving within Michigan (but not local) with Corrigan/United ... They packed us and moved us and did not break or lose a single thing. http://corriganmoving.com
