  With downtown and the pier needing cleaning up and upkeep, something needs to be done. What if we started an "adopt a piece of Main St. or the pier" or any part of HB for that matter, (like adopt a piece of highway) and locals and businesses could "keep up their area" and in return get something out of it? Participating businesses would also have a decal in their window showing that they are participating in the program. Maybe have a plaque wall in which names could be switched out if businesses/citizens did not want to participate anymore... What do you think a good name would be to name the project? Everyone should also follow "HB Citizens For A Better Downtown" FB page to keep up on happenings downtown and close surrounding areas.

  This is one of the reasons why the HB Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) was established. Downtown businesses are paying as much as $1200 (each) per year to this BID for "beautification, safety, maintenance...". If you have an issue with the ongoing deterioration of DTHB, I suggest you first contact the HB Downtown BID (Sue Firth Welfringer) and ask them/her what they are going to do to make changes for the better. http://www.hbdowntown.com/
