Advice please :)
Insurance Question.
My improv troupe is negotiating with a new venue as our rehearsal and performance space. The first 3 months they will cover us under their insurance, but would like us to acquire our own after. We have been performing for the last few years and never had insurance before, nor have we ever had a venue request that we have any.
Have any of you ever had to get insurance for your troupes, or for performing at a venue?
Can anyone recommend an insurance company that will cover us where ever we go?
Thanks everyone!

Check out FracturedAtlas.org. I've never had to insure my troupe but I got insurance for my theater through Fractured Atlas.

My improv company is a long-term renter and we have to carry our own insurance. Not sure it's the same everywhere, but building insurance often tends to cover outside structure only, not inside walls, so they probably don't want to be liable for anything that happens inside your space. You also want to be covered if you ever rent your space to anyone else for a show or rehearsal. We use Fractured Atlas too.
Does anyone know the specific language for the type of liability insurance dealers have to protect artists' work that they show? Thanks! Happy holidays!!!

Advice on insurance needed: I'm looking to possibly move some of my classes away from the current studio I'm teaching at (low hourly pay even though I bring in quite a bit of money for them). I have an opportunity to rent a floor at the local arts house which is a great space and a very reasonable rate. However, I'm not sure if I would just need personal instructor insurance, or if dance studio insurance would be more appropriate. Any input from the virtual community here? Thanks in advance for any help-- :)

Hey fellow filmmakers, I'm looking to get some quotes on production insurance for my new short. I have one company I've used in the past, but is there anyone you recommend? Any and all feedback would be great. Thanks!
Lori B. replied:
Look into Fractured Atlas. They're based out of NYC and fantastic. http://www.fracturedatlas.org/

Jimmy George couldn't comment here because you guys aren't FB pals, but he said that they used Fractured Atlas on "Call Girl of Cthulu" and said you won't find a cheaper quote. For comparison, CGoC had a lot of physical effects, multiple locations, etc. (I dunno if that has an impact, I don't make these movie things)
Anyone on here an attorney? I need to create non profit status for YAD plus some other legal stuff for YAD. No budget but thought maybe someone would donate. Hey, I'll take some photos for ya.
Audrey B. replied:
have you looked into Fractured Atlas? Baran Dance uses non-profit status and has fiscal sponsorship through FA (without going through everything to become a NP) http://www.fracturedatlas.org/
Hello, I am looking into Production insurance and a way to get a free quote please. Where can I find the best place? Any links you know of for companies that do production insurance locally?

www.fracturedatlas.org SOFA's monthly mixer/StudioNight meetings are free. You don't need to attend the mixers to be engaged - thanks to the powers of the internet :) SOFA provides a networking environment both in person at the events, educational opportunities and via social media and the Yahoo email listserv. If you want to become a supporting member, it's only $20/year which gets you discounts and other benes, a very inexpensive membership rate for an industry org.

Hey folks: I'm looking for a lawyer who specializes in arts/entertainment to advise me on a contract related to representation of me and my photography. Preferably one who works with starving artists (i.e. reasonable rates!)
Any recommendations?

Hey artist friendz! Do any of you have advice about liability insurance while working off site? My insurance company has no idea what a mural painter is...

Hi. Can anyone help us (teen filmmaker Ben Kadie and family) ? To get a permit to film at a state park we need $1M of insurance. The budget of the film is only $1400 without insurance, but it looks like insurance would cost $600-$700 for four filming days. Does this sound like what you guys have seen before? Any suggestions for getting the insurance cost down? Thanks for any help anyone can give!

Taryn R. replied:
Go to fracturedatlas.org and look for insurance for filmmakers. It is quite a bit cheaper than going through your normal local insurance company. It is a year long policy, but it is still SO much cheaper than a short-term policy. For a permit, go to https://www.seattle.gov/filmoffice/filmmanual.htm and download the film manual. All stipulations and the permit application are within. For questions and to submit the permit, contact chris.swenson@seattle.gov
