  Experiences with KEH lens repair on a modern zoom lens? Does anyone have any experience with using KEH's repair service on a modern zoom lens? I had my camera fall from a tripod, which damaged my camera and lens. I had the camera repaired by Nikon, but was underwhelmed by their service speed and pricing, and was looking into other options to repair the lens. I've bought multiple items from KEH, and have had nothing but great experiences with them. But is their service department as good as their sales? Do they do good work on a modern lens (Nikon 200-500), or do they mostly specialize in older lenses? Any experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  I like Midstate Camera. They are local to me, but have clients across the US. They are small and experienced. They have repaired three lenses for me, and checked over one other lens. http://www.midstatecamerarepair.com/ I personally don't see the need to send to Canon something that can be done by an independent repair shop.

  Some thoughts: - Are you sure that the problems you're having aren't related to the card or possibly crud in the card bay? It might be worth shooting some contact cleaner into the card bay (upside down so that it runs back out) and/or trying a brand-new card. - I recently picked up a D90 body used from a friend for pretty reasonable money. Ask around and see if anyone's got older gear that they're looking to unload. - current-gen Nikon flashes should work just fine. I have an SB-600 which is great but it looks like the SB-700 replaces it. The SB-300 and SB-400 are much more affordable if not as fully featured but if you're looking to upgrade to a "real" flash, they're still likely to be better than the built-in popup flash. - Mid State Camera Repair is excellent and I would recommend them, even if you have to ship the body to them: http://www.midstatecamerarepair.com/ - I still have my D50 body. It's not as nice as your D70 but if you need a working body I will be happy to loan it to you for the duration of the emergency. - I think your investment in Nikon glass and accessories is safe; they've been pretty good over time about compatibility. Some of the newer lenses (which depend on the autofocus in the camera body) won't autofocus in some of the older bodies, but I *think* the older lenses with their own embedded focus motors will work in newer generation bodies.
