  My 19 yr old daughter had just been stung with a $3500 quote for a root canal and crown. Anyone know if there are more affordable options in Auckland or near? I’m gutted I’m not in a position to help her much with this bill. I’m putting off my own much needed dental work for the same reasons - the mind bending crazy amount it’s going to cost. I’m sure it’s been asked before, but does anyone have any advice or recommendations for a cheaper, yet still quality alternative. For context she saw a lumino dentist in takapuna, Auckland ( bc they had a deal on the initial consult and xrays). In doing some quick research this arvo I came across a 2016 herald article saying people were travelling to the regions for more affordable dental work, I’m wondering if that’s a viable option. Anyway many thanks if you can give me some advice. Poor thing was bawling on the phone today.

Not sure how much a root canal would set your daughter back, but I had crowns done for my upper teeth at their Hinemoa Street practice last year and Dr. Ahmad Mustafa was phenomenal throughout - not to mention the amazing rest of the team there.

  [Affordable Dentists](http://www.affordabledentists.co.nz/) are *excellent* (their Hinemoa Street practice is my usual but have been to the others) and, as the name suggests, quite affordable - I paid $240 for a wisdom tooth removal in February, to give you an idea. My wife's in a similar situation; dentist back home said she'd need root canals for a couple of teeth that are very slightly loose. Affordable Dentists have said she absolutely doesn't, so it's a good idea to get a second opinion from wherever you go. Staff are lovely AF at Affordable Dentists though so I can't recommend them enough.
