  My gelding has just been diagnosed with IR. Main indicator was not shedding his winter coat and of course the fat deposits around his tail, neck isn't bad. My vet has put him on Metformin and Prascend. Has anyone had any experience with these drugs ? Any other suggestions appreciated.

  You can get Heiro at many of the online tack stores, Valley Vet, Stateline, etc. http://www.equinemedsurg.com/faq/heiro/ I have one vet who said "not worth the money" another who said "try it". I had to put my mares food in slow feeders and fenced off EVERY thing edible, including barn doors and muck rake handles :-)
