  I got a straight-razor shave from Claire at [Thorps](http://thorps.org). It was very relaxing, especially the series of hot towels. Not the closest shave, but worth it to "treat yo' self".

  Stephen, who is now at [Thorps](http://thorps.org/), cut my hair from long to short a few years back, and I was super happy with it. Then he moved to the east side, and I don't care about my hair enough to drive across town. But, I would highly recommend him, according the the website his cuts start at $40, but I'm sure that's for men's, so he would probably be outside your $40 limit in the end.
