Founded by Stuart Macbeth at a three-piece skiffle group, the band take their name from a touring troupe which once featured Bessie Smith and Louis Jordan, and the spasm bands that played home-made instruments on the streets of New Orleans in 1890s. The band soon added brass and drums grew, and grew into a seven-piece who smash trad jazz and jump blues with the energy of punk.
