Hello from the UK to all fellow parents of HS sufferers. Thank you for accepting me into your group.
I have a beautiful 8yr old Welsh terrier, Eddy. After a few months of him suffering extreme fatigue, gnawing at his paws, lethargy, disinterest in walks and what looked like arthritis when he walked, we started to see the scabs appear on his feet. He visited the vet who treated him for all number of ailments including a general anaesthetic to remove all the hair from his paws thinking he had pododermititis as he had such a bad fungal infection in his paws that they were full of puss. He was very poorly but recovered well. A month later. The thick crust started to appear on his paws, backs of his legs, muzzle, eyes and groin. We sought a second opinion as our vet was at a loss.
We found a wonderful doggie skin specialist who swiftly performed several skin biopsies and he was soon diagnosed positive to HS. We felt like our world had imploded. Extremely rare the vet said and apart from amino acid, there is little or no treatment.
After reading up on this site, I've been feeding eddy chicken stock for a month now peppered with milk thistle and amino acid powder. Pretty much all the scabs on his entire body started falling off. Miracle I thought. Amazing! However, after three weeks of our homemade treatment, he has started scratching at his nose and eyes again and I can see the scabs starting to grow back. I'm devastated. What have I done wrong?
Any suggestions as to how to help him cope with this truly awful disease and what I can do further to keep it at bay will be welcomed
