  How to find caregivers / service providers? We've reached a point where my parents need in-home supports. I'm new to this entire constellation of stuff, and feel a bit overwhelmed. How can I find an agency or organization to perform an assessment of their current living situation? I'm hoping I can have someone come in, interview both parents, look at the house, provide a list of possible services, (both support services and possible house modifications for safety/mobility) and ideally provide references for individuals/agencies/businesses that provide those services. My parents are located in the United States, in Portland, Oregon, so I'm sure there are multiple possible providers, I just don't know the best way to locate them, review and evaluate them, and how to pick one to move forward with.

  ISO: recommendations for a home health aide provider. My dad (72) who lives alone in Arlington is coming home from the hospital after hip surgery and we are going to need an undetermined amount of coverage from home health aide(s). We have PT/OT and nursing set up but he needs someone with him 24/7 initially and we just can't cover all of that time. Anybody have a similar experience? How did you cover this time? Recommendations for companies that provide this kind of care? Anybody have an idea of what this costs? Is it hourly? Daily? Weekly? I've made some phone calls but wasn't able to make much progress heading into the weekend. Many thanks in advance!

  We used Home Instead Senior care to cover the last several months of my Mom's life, when we needed lots of extra help. All the caregivers were good, many were excellent. One woman asked what my Mom's favorite music had been (my Mom was non verbal at that point) and I visited to find her sitting there, holding my Mom's hand and singing her a show tune.
