About us
Driftwood self-catering accommodation is a modern and tastefully furnished two-storey town house situated on the Esplanade with views over the River Medway. Taking just a short walk, you will find yourself in the historic town of Rochester, with its Norman Castle (dating back to 1088) and a magnificent Cathedral built by Bishop Gundulf, amongst its many attractions.
There are excellent road and rail links, making Driftwood ideally situated for exploring North Kent. Whether it’s shopping at the ‘Bluewater Shopping Centre’, taking the high speed train into Central London or perhaps taking a day trip to France via Eurostar from Ashford or Ebbsfleet International stations.
There are many castles, gardens and historic houses close by and we are just four and a half miles from Chatham’s Historic Dockyard where HMS Victory was launched in 1765. It’s also home to the last remaining naval ropery, where rope has been made on the site since 1681.
One of Rochester’s most famous connections is that of Charles Dickens, who made his family home at Gad’s Hill Place in Higham. Here he wrote many of his novels using references to Rochester and the surrounding area. There are now well established Dickensian Festivals held annually in his honour.
Rochester is also host to the Castle Garden Concerts and the Sweeps Festival.
Restaurants and pubs abound in Rochester and the surrounding area, catering for all styles and tastes and budgets.
