About us
My name is Ysela Aguirre and I am Momma Sella. I have always loved sewing and have enjoyed making costumes, special event dresses, aprons and bibs, for friends and family. There are many other things I enjoy making and especially love a good challenge!
I have always been around sewing, by hand and with a machine. As a young girl, I would sit and watch my mother as she would make clothes for my 12 siblings and me using her own homemade patterns. I enjoyed threading the needle for her and hearing the sound of the machine as she worked on her projects. My favorite time was when she would get really creative and make costumes for us!
I credit her and a few other special people with my love of sewing. My first “teacher” was my brother Victor. He would cut from the left over scraps of fabric my mom used for me to hand sew clothes for my Barbies. My maternal grandmother, Mama Carmelita, would make these gathered pinwheel type quilts and I remember threading needles for her to have ready whenever she was working on them. Mrs. Hildreth at Alder Jr. High was my first official sewing teacher. She was an awesome teacher who I learned so much from and to this day, remember so much of what she taught me. My sister Carmen taught me how to read and understand patterns and helped me with my sewing homework and I always earned an “A” on my projects! It was because of Carmen that I was able to make my blush pink sweetheart neckline satin and lace tea length prom dress in 1983!
It is through my family's encouragement and support that I have finally taken a leap of faith to venture into this business! In fact, it is because of my daughter Justine that Sewn By Momma Sella was finally created and because of her that we became Sewn By Momma Sella and Company!
