Haputale is a small town nestled high in the central hills of Sri Lanka situated 4900 feet (1500 meters) above sea level where most of the land is comprised of tea estates. The 193 KM drive from Colombo takes you around four and half hours on a scenic route via the famous gem cities of Ratnapura and Balangoda. The journey time is reduced by more than an hour if you travel early in the morning. Destinations such as Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains, Uda Walawe, Kataragama, Yala, Hambanthota and Arugam Bay just two - three hours’ drive away. This makes Clouds, Haputale an ideal base for visitors to explore the central, eastern and south-eastern parts of the island.
