I am in need of an exterminator. Seems carpenter ants like the view! Any recommendations???

Echoing what Mike Schuster suggested, but I was going to recommend boric acid (H₃BO₃) - inexpensive, available at many hardware stores, persistent in dry areas, and relatively safe* - I believe that with the acid powder you also get a mechanical action similar to that with diatomaeous earth: it gets in between the body plates of the insect and causes a lot of little wounds, resulting in the ants bleeding to death. That in addition to the toxic effect upon consumption. * http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9927105
