Dawn M. asked:Posting to see if anyone else has had a similar experience and what they did to resolve it...we went through our renters insurance during the fire to get an air scrubber since the air quality was HORRIBLE. We wound up going through Servpro and they delivered an air scrubber the next day. We’d asked to get an estimate for cleaning/smoke mitigation but never received an estimate, nor did anyone ever come by the house to see the inside to give an estimate. Air scrubber was dropped off and picked up a few days later. Then we get a bill for $1692.42 for the house being cleaned which never happened! They’re refusing the payment of $424.72 for the air scrubber and are insisting they did a smoke cleanup INSIDE our home. They’re now contacting our landlord threatening a lien against our property we rent. We’ve contacted the DA and we’ll be filing a fraud report but just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience with this company or any others? Also we have ZERO carpet in our house except a 5x8 rug and one of the charges is for 100 sq ft of carpet cleaning.Kirsten M. replied:The California contract law requires a written description to make a valid contract. There you can look him up by name, company name or by license #. When it pulls up, there will be a link for his insurance information. Recommend always doing this before hiring anyone. Theres also a link for prior complaints and violations. FYI, theres a link for personel. Make sure only the people listed as personel enter your property. They are the only ones covered under their insurance. Good luck and sorry youre going through troubles.

Says he does electrical, plumbing, painting, etc. Small and large jobs. He also said he in licensed bonded and insured. I asked how he got my home number and he said they contract through home depot and Lowe's and share the same database. Interesting because we are looking to get a few things done around here, rusted gate and fences, need repair and paint, amongst other things and we are looking for someone. Coincidence? Do I trust? I'm currently having some landscape/fence work done at my house, and yesterday a lady and a gentleman from the State Contractors License Board stopped by to check on their license. They had it because I know better. You can get into some serous trouble if you don't use a licensed and insured contractor, not to mention you can be putting yourself in serious financial risk. They said that they were just driving around, and will continue to drive around looking for violations.

You can see if their license is current, if they have workers comp insurance and if their bond is current. And you can always check the Better Business Bureau! If you hire a licensed contractor and something goes wrong then you have many more options for help! We always recommend a customer to look us up before they hire because if you are a reputable contractor then you don't have anything to hide!

We charged your credit card for the total of $227.00 and advised you that your equipment was in need of a cleaning service. This can be found in the recommendation section of invoice #2652 I'm sorry to hear that this component failed prematurely. If this failure had taken place within a calendar year we would have replaced it once again free of charge as that's our policy. I'm sorry that you did not feel satisfied with your experience. We at performance mechanical not only strive to have superior customer satisfaction but we also carry all the required licensing and insurance for our trade. I do ask that if you have other recomendations of companies that can help the community that are not on this list please just respond in the comment section and I will ad them. One area that I dont have a great deal of info on are health services. Those who charge more than 500.00 per job materials and labor together are required by law to be property licensed and insured (workers comp) no exemptions or you must work alone. Liability insurance should be verified also. I know some of these listed who are legit. I have hired some of them as a subcontractors in the past. Some others may or may not be.
