From the guys who brought you Dukes Burgers, power couple Ari Shapiro & Lori Baar have been hard at work setting up the new 7th street hangout. With a long parquet bar and throwback pinup urban feel ... its not only about the design. Dukes has become known for revolutionizing the JHB burger scene and now they introduce an entirely new food concept, calling Jo’Anna a MELT BAR.
So what is a Melt Bar? According to menu creator, Lori Baar, it means “everything coming out of the kitchen has melted cheese on it”. Simple concept. Simple food. Gourmet toasties served at a long, sexy bar. Sold. But wait, there’s more... Combining high end cuisine with classic bar food, expect chicken wings doused with ‘alcoholic’ sauces (just the way we like it): Brandy ‘n Coke BBQ, Sweet Chilli Vodka & Hot hot tequila! All melts are served on artisanal breads with quirky 1920’s inspired names and plenty more on offer.
In the spirit of recycling, when taking the pressed ceiling down, throwing it away was not an option. But making a statement of it on the wall was. Mirroring the layers of our cosmopolitan society, from the deconstructed ceiling, to the window frames on the exposed brick walls, Jo’Anna entwines textures of old school industrial design with slick modern finishes. It’s a throwback to beautiful Joburg with the spin on hopeful new and trendy. Its yet another aesthetic homerun by this innovative couple. And so called Jo’Anna for its reference to the Eddie Grant song, it is all about JOZI HOPE.
