  I have heard folks recommend some places, but... I'd ask around A LOT before picking a place. And also talk to a few of your final picks about their experience with AMC motors. Maybe ask some local 4 x4 shops that know jeeps/amc v8's, search (and then post) on colorado4 x4.org, etc. Engine rebuilding seems like such a crapshoot to me. And an expensive one at that.

  hey rob, i can give a personal thumbs up to "rocky mountain backroad 4 x4 s" in golden... they did all the work on my '01 XJ which is built very similar to your '97. pretty convenient too, since they're near the intersection of I-70, US6, and US40 (colfax). 303/279.9507 ask for thomas (owner) and tell him terry sent you. http://www.backroad4 x4 s.com fwiw, one of the co-owners is an XJ wheeler. good luck.
