Why Equine Dentistry?
Domestication of the horse has resulted in a change of diet from tough fibrous forage to soft pasture and concentrate feeds. In effect this has reduced jaw movements and resulted in sharp enamel edges which can cause oral discomfort. Throughout the horse's life their teeth are continually erupting thus reasoning for regular removal of sharp edges, which in most horses is annually.
Who am I & What do I do?
My name is Gemma English an Equine Dental Technician who studied at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire and have since obtained a degree in Equine Dental Studies. It is of strong importance to me that all treatment takes place safely and is conducted in a calm and gentle manner, as horse's welfare is my number one priority. As part of my service there is no charge for oral examinations as I feel it is important for owners to have good awareness and understanding of their horse's oral health.
I know this has been asked before but what equine dentists do people recommend? Used a few different people in the past but last time was horse was quite naughty which is very out of character. Would prefer not to sedate him so need someone sympathetic! Thanks :-)
