  Legal advice needed. Electrical problems in rented house started on Dec 23. 2 out of 3 bedrooms and kitchen/living room are without power. Heat works downstairs but no vents leading upstairs so my room is cold and dark. The landlord claims to manage 27 other properties but "doesn't have the money" to fix our problem. He's sent a few guys to come take a look but nothing has been resolved/diagnosed. People have told me to withhold rent payment but I don't see that as being productive and I don't want to get kicked out. The lease agreement says they will fix house issues but doesn't define any sort of timeline. Just moving to a new place is easier said than done. Do we file a lawsuit, wait it out, or just not pay until it's fixed? Edit: Any recommendations for reasonably priced attorneys would be appreciated.

  In Aurora - call property standards - John Sefton Property Maintenance Compliance Officer II 630-256-3784 - he will be able to tell you who is assigned to the property. All rental property in Aurora has to be inspected & compliant & registered with the city of Aurora, as well as licensed. If there is an issue with the condition of the property I would start there. The city can then put pressure on the owner of the property. If he owns multiple rental properties he will have a major issue if it's not fixed. DON'T Stop paying the rent.
