  Advice needed: Our senior Golden (13 years old), has been dealing with itchy/flaky skin for several months now. Multiple trips to the vet: antibiotics for a while, medicated shampoos, anti-fungal shampoo, now on thyroid meds for low thyroid. Still no change. I need a doggy dermatologist recommendation as well as any other helpful advice. Thinking of trying new food as well (she's on Fromm Whitefish and Potato). She's miserable.

  If you are in the area here is a doctor i recommend: Dr. Sarah Colombini Osborn, D.V.M., Southwest Veterinary Dermatology, 18807 State Highway 249 S., Houston, Texas 77070 281-894-8151 - She helped my girl Sasha. Sasha was scratching and chewing herself raw and bloody. She now takes Apoquil and is on a vegitarian diet and her general practitioner did her bloodwork just a few days ago at her 6 month health check and said her blood work looks like a 1 year old pup. Sasha is 12 years old. It was a true Miracle. This is Sasha on her 12 th Birthday back in April, 2015.

Skin scraping showed no mites, and the vet has suggested now trying a grain free diet. So, does anyone have any suggestions on a grain free dry dog food that won't break the bank??

  Victor grain free salmon is affordable and available at most Houston area feed stores. Mine has severe allergies and she did well on it. I now switched to raw, but that is more expensive and not very convenient. You will have to avoid treats too. Mine can only have dehydrated sweet potatoes and I make those myself. If it doesn't get better after going grain-free I would highly suggest http://www.southwestvetderm.com/ . She finally got to the bottom of my Doberman's issues after struggling for over a year to get answers, but it is not cheap.
