The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank (WPDB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. They are an affiliate of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), a nonprofit organization established in 2012. The NDBN is dedicated to ensuring every baby in the United States can be clean, dry and healthy. They provide free technical and business development assistance to WPDB. In turn, they advise other organizations.
Government programs do not specifically fund or provide diapers.
The Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank is the only regional nonprofit organization focused solely on the distribution of diapers to families of low-income or poverty level. In addition, the WPDB acts as an informal clearinghouse, referring families to organizations that focus on other issues families in need may encounter. WPDB is volunteer run, including Executive Director Cathy Battle.
Civic groups, businesses, churches and schools as well as individuals have organized successful diaper drives. This allows the WPDB to provide diapers to families in need in the Western PA region.
