Children with Hair Loss is who I've donated to. Twice. They don't charge for the wigs like locks of love does. Most hair salons will cut your hair in a pony tail so you can send it off. Thank you for doing this! <3
Planning to cut my hair and either sell or donate (maybe to Locks of Love). Any recommendations where to donate and where to get it cut?
Edit: After seeing the first few comments, I won't be donating to Locks of Love.

I used Children with Hair loss. I had color in my hair and they would take it. I have heard that Locks of Love won't, I have also heard that Lock of Love charges patients for the wigs where the Children with Hair Loss raises money so there is no cost to the patient. The other advantage is this one donates to all children with hair loss be it a burn victim, cancer....

Children With Hair Loss is where we donate... they give hair FREE. Locks of Love charges patients for hair.
Anyone know of a salon that cuts/donates hair to "wigs for kids" or "Pantene beautiful lengths?" The past few months my daughter has expressed interest in donating her hair. (We causually mentioned the option a few times in the past since her hair grows extremely fast!) She is 3.5 so I want to make sure it's a reputable salon that will help make the experience enjoyable for her. Thanks!

Smartstyles in Montgomery. Locks of love charges kids for the wigs. We donate it to Children with hair loss. These kids receive a wig every year, FREE OF CHARGE, until the age of 26. These kids have skin dresses along with illnesses that cause them to either lose their hair or causes their hair not to grow.

This was posted by a friend of mine the other day. I hope it helps.
Recently I cut off a little over 11 inches of my hair and was interested in donating it to an organization who would make good use of it. Hair donation is important because it costs approximately $1,800 for a complete hair replacement. Locks of Love is one of the most popular groups for hair donation but after research I was highly disappointed. They use less than 1/3 of the hair they receive from donations. They should not be considered a charity but a for-profit business because they do not give hair to those in need, they SELL it. Not only do they make children pay for their wigs, but they make them jump through hoops just to receive one. They are known to deny wigs to children with dim prognosis' because they would not get enough use from the wig.

I looked for other organizations after reading about Locks of Love.
Pantene Beautiful lengths is a non-profit charity that accepts hair 8" and longer for donation, their hair replacements go to adults.
http://pantene.com/en-us/experience-main-section2/beautiful-lengths
Wigs for Kids is another private non-profit group that specializes in hair replacements for children.
http://www.wigsforkids.org/
Children With Hair Loss is another non-profit organization if you are considering donating your hair. They have never charged a child for a hair replacement. They donate hair to children struggling with cancer, Alopecia, burns, Trichotillomania, and other diseases that cause hair loss.
http://www.childrenwithhairloss.us/
Doing your research before donating anything is extremely important because you don't want to help empower corrupt "charities"
Looking for a recommendation for a hairdresser in or around Mt. Juliet for my 5 year old. She has decided to donate for Locks of love and it will be her first real cut. So need someone who works well with children and will calm her since I know she is nervous! Thanks in advance!!
Toni P. replied:
I think it is awesome she is donating! My daughers did that as well this year. 13 inches and 10 inches! However, please don't do locks of love! They charge outrageous prices! This is a great place to donate to, and they help children all over the US. Whether it be from cancer treatments, alopecia or whatever else is causing them to lose their hair. My friend's daughter here in Pittsburgh just got a wig for free from them. http://www.childrenwithhairloss.us

I recommend donating to the organization, Children with Hair Loss. I recently donated 11 inches and chose them because they do not charge their recipients! They accept all hair, even color treated and gray, provided it's in good condition. I believe the minimum is 8 inches. Kudos to you, it's a great thing to do! http://www.childrenwithhairloss.us/

Needing advice on hair stylist. My granddaughter wants to donate her long hair. She wants to cut it short but also stylish. No razor cuts. Something easy but feminine. She is beautiful but she wants a change of hair.
No color-just a very pretty style for a 16 year old.
We live in Dawson Co. but willing to go to Cumming or anywhere else with a good stylist that will listen and cut it like she wants and show her how to keep it. They need to be up on all the new styles.
Thanks in advance!!

Also, http://www.childrenwithhairloss.us Children With Hair Loss was created as a resource for all children who have medically-related hair loss. Most people who receive wigs through locks of love have to pay for them.

I donated to Children With Hair Loss http://www.childrenwithhairloss.us/donate-your-hair/. You mail in your donation. They are not as strict as some of the others. Hair only has to be a minimum of 8 inches, and they accept chemically treated hair although they prefer it not to be. You can send in a monetary donation when you mail in the hair, but it is not required.
Hello Everyone! I heard that there are people out there who can benefit from a wig made with natural hair? If that is the case I would like to explore the possibility of donating my hair to someone in need. I understand you must have 12 inches of hair or more. If I choose to go that route, does any of you know anyone in need? and/or a TRUSTWORTHY organization?
Thank you in advance.
Gabby C. replied:
Anny Barboza...Mandy is spot on. Locks of Love uses what they can, then sells off the remains to make money to reinvest. So u don't know if your hair, made the cut, so to speak. My personal goal was to donate 5 x before I turned 40. That was less than 10 years ago and I've donated 4 x so far. The best organization for me, and I'm hard to please, is www.childrenwithhairloss.us It's a 501 and they use all the hair that's donated. I say it's best because of the program they offer to the children. If you are say a burn victim at age 5, you put your application in..once accepted you are in the program until the age of 21. Each year, the child receives a new wig. So, as the child physically grows, trends change, likes and dislikes develope..the child can get a "proper fitting" wig once a year! Second of importance to me...the min length donation is 8" although if you chat on the phone with them they really can use 10"...which is still 2" less than LOL. In addition, they will take colored and permed hair as long as it's healthy. Think about it, there's kids young kids... up to 21 so different textured hair is very beneficial to them. Good luck and thanks for donating 💗 I'd love for a local salon establishment to partner with these folks. They're out if the south and have little exposure. Locks of Love just overpowers everybody and they falsely advertise, IMO. There's another company out there too that asks salon owners to collect the hair off the floor and they use it to make mats for oil spills.
I need your help! Looking for an organization to work with for an August Time Team Detroit event! (Please no walks ... We get hundreds of requests for those!) Email me with suggestions: shannon@mojointhemorning.com
