Hivemind: My 4WD on my 2002 Xterra Nissan is doing weird things like making a making a loud grinding noise shortly after engaging it in movement.
It goes away ONLY AFTER I put it back in 2WD and then REVERSE to disengage it.
So, what is it?
And locally who is the best to deal with what is clearly a transmission repair?
Looking for an urban provider but if you work or have interest in a firm recommending, please disclose to be fair.
Where I have had bad experiences with my repairs in the past 5-10 years include:
One's I avoid so far are Northeast Auto (formerly Diamond Auto) Knapp and Fuller (confirming my long held view that scripture verses and business cards in this town) and won't use Veenstra's on Fulton again.
Please no recommendations of the Nissan on Plainfield, my ass never healed from the last few repairs. Every repair I used to give them could have been dealt with a local independent shop with a lot less cash.
