About us
Tuliza Equine Massage started as a dream a few years ago and, with the help of some amazing family members (mainly my husband), has become a reality.
Tuliza (pron. "too-lee-zah") is Swahili for 'soothe', or 'relief', and is named for my mother & her love of Africa & the language - who introduced me to the world of massage. I purchased my mare from an equine massage therapist that I was working for, and I started thinking maybe this was the way to go. Real life has a tendency to get in the way of things, however, and the idea was put on the back burner until recently.
Working for Eagle Point Farm & Karen Godsey, I was dropped into an environment that I had loved since childhood - horse racing. My father was a trainer in his younger years and had raised me on it, watching the Triple Crown and Breeder's Cup year after year, and everything else we could watch in between. Being able to see the horses train from a hands on, first person perspective really started me on my active pursuit of massage therapy. Racehorses are such incredible athletes, I knew they had to benefit from what I wanted to offer.
So, off I went to Equissage and Mary Schreiber of Round Hill, VA, the pioneer in equine massage. Learning from the best, Mary went on to make equine massage an accepted mainstream treatment, and a viable career option for those like myself who want to do the best we can to make these amazing athletes as competitive as possible.
