Who do I need to contact to discuss the "No U Turn" sign on Oklahoma Ave just east of KK? The police have evidently had a field day this week pulling people over (including me) and issuing $98.00 citations to those of us attempting to pull into Starbucks. While I understand the intent of the sign, turning into Starbucks is NOT a U Turn per the Department of Motor Vehicle's Motorists' Handbook revised October 2016. For reference: "A U-turn is a turn within the road, made in one smooth U-shaped motion, so as to end up traveling in the opposite direction." Page 24 Motorists' Handbook Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles October 2016. The turn is actually a NW turn into the driveway from the West. The turn does not take place in the road, is not made in one smooth U-shaped motion and a driver does not end up traveling in the opposite direction.
I will be contesting my ticket due to this definition. I fully understand what they are attempting to do by having the sign there but it would be more accurate to instead have a NO LEFT TURN sign placed there rather than NO U TURN. I think everyone who received a ticket there this week ought to have the ticket waived and a more accurate sign ought to be erected to accomplish the goal of eliminating or reducing traffic congestion during morning work traffic.
