About us
Hi, I'm Rachel.
And I can't wait to get to know you and your family.
I'm a Pacific Northwesterner for life and live just south of Seattle where all of my favorite places are readily accessible (the ocean, the forest, and the mountains). When I'm not shooting, you can find me reading The Book With No Pictures for the 14,732,341st time to my son, tending to our mini farm, or losing my voice at a Seattle Sounders game. I drink iced coffee year round, I firmly believe that a quad shot of espresso a day keeps the doctor away, I used to have a cupcake business, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days makes me snort laugh every time I watch it but The Green Mile makes me sob, I love Hayao Miyazaki films and have turned my kid into an anime watching fiend, and I'm an over-sharer (if you couldn't tell already). And I think it's important to get in the photo myself sometimes, no matter how awkward I think I look.
I picked up a camera 9 months before my son was born (yes, I attempted to learn about photography with pregnancy brain, not my brightest decision), knowing that I'd want to soak up all the moments that time would eventually try to steal from me. After A LOT of trial and error, I fell in love with documentary and storytelling images (well, my hand was a little forced by having a son who won't pose... NOT EVEN FOR CANDY!). After I fell in love with the camera, I started looking at my mom's images that she used to take when we were kids. It dawned on me that my love was hereditary, she had been our family historian, the one who documented, as well. Those images have a whole new meaning to me now (horrible 80's fashion and all).
When I started taking clients, I fell in love even more. There is something magical about watching loved ones interact. Getting to be an observer of someone's love, someone's story, is an honor. And one I take very seriously (I've been known to tear up while editing certain images, haha!). I love the everyday and I love the simple, undiluted love that... show more
