  Midwives in the birmingham area?? Hey folks, using a throwaway here, because I'm so early in things that we haven't really told anybody yet. I'm currently expecting my first child, and I'd REALLY like to use the services of a midwife. (yes, I know, legally they have to operate under the supervision of a doctor in this state.) Problem is, I CANNOT find any info at all about the local midwives. I was told that St Vincents has one on staff, but I haven't been able to find anything on their website about it. I even tried e-mailing several people at the Alabama Midwives Association, and haven't heard a word back. Has anyone here used the services of a midwife, or know how I could get in touch with one?? EDIT: Just to clarify, I am not a crazy hippie. I just want to explore all my options so i can take the most well-rounded approack.

  You can try contacting the Alabama Birth Coalition for information.
