Just wondering about insulation, my airstream is gutted and the floor is out, we are about to reinstall insulation in the floor, any recommendations before we start??
Ralph M. replied:
1. Do NOT use the "pink stuff" as it is highly toxic. 2. Go to www.greendepot.com for alternative Batt Insulation like EcoBatt. 3. Walls + Roof use Certainteed Eco Insulation (http://www.certainteed.com/) or EcoBatt. 4. New Green Airstreams use both of these products.
Can anyone recommend a good roofer? Chris wants to put on a cool roof, like the kind that allows for air flow, not like "awesome" cool. But if it looks nice that's a plus.

Sorry I didn't get info to you sooner, but with Geary's surgeries it kind of put me behind, his first day back to work since last Monday was last night. Thank you again for all your calls, texts, and the get well card, it meant so much to your Dad. We got a CertainTeed Roof (go to CertainTeed.com). We picked an Energy Star (you get credit on your taxes, light colored roof that keeps your house cool). We picked the Landmark Pro which gives you 5 Star Coverage, which extends the regular warranty called SureStart up to a lifetime of 50 years, really good thing is it is transferrable if you sell the house for up to 15 years for the new owners, covers material, labor, tear-off and disposal for 50 years after installation, covers contractor's workmanship for 25 years (our contractor told us he does it lifetime too), super good thing- increases wind warranty to 130 m.p.h. for 15 years. When you go on the website you can pick a roof and design to see what your house will look like. Instead of going through the roofing company, I ordered the roof through Lowe's for a better price, got free delivery, since I would have gotten free delivery from the roofer's company, Lowe's matched it and took 18 or 24 months to pay for the materials without interest. The site lists the approved roofers in your area. You click on the link on the lower left side "Find a Professional Roofing Contractor", put in your zip code and it lists the names in your area of the approved contractors. You want to pick of contractor with a Yellow ribbon, they are considered the best or as listed "Denotes Premier Contractors - Contractors with CertainTeed's highest professional credentials". I researched for over a year on roofing material, companies and warranties and this was the best for the best price. The guy who owns the roofing company on my same street as us was listed at the top of the list as the best in my area by CertainTeed, they were also highly recommended by people in the area. I looked up your zip and there are 6 Yellow ribbon installers, but you still may want to interview a couple before making a decision. Hope this helps.
