  We tow a smart. 1850 lbs, hardly know it is back there behind our Roadtrek. Many cars cannot be towed without mods if they are auto. Smart has an automated manual tranny, until 2016 model.

  Does anyone know of a review of smart cars? I was interested in this, too, but was too dumb to figure out what cars were "smarts". A review would perhaps have safety ratings.

  Smart Car can be flat towed, Check with the dealer. 2005-2008 can't be flat towed rear wheels must be off the roadway. Newer one's can be. There are a great run around car 65 miles to gallon.

  I believe smarts are very reliable. Every car mfr has some problems. Easy to chg oil and filter from the rear without jacking the car up. Biggest downside is limited mercedes dealers svc them. Hopefully ours will never see one.

  Cindy. The only time our Smart Car go's to the dealer is to have a light bulb changed. They do it a no cost for labor just the cost of the bulb. Our repair shop does all the oil changes lot less expense.

  We pulled a Smart car From Key West Florida to the Cabot Trail Nova Scotia and Back. Pulled behind a 2003 Roadtrek 170, 318 Dodge V-8. Blue Ox hitch and base plate. We have sold our Roadtrek and Smart Car and are touring in Europe, but when we return we will get a newer Smart car and pull it again. Our Smart was a 2008. We will probably get a used 2015 to pull. In my opinion the Smart car is the ideal tow car. Take a look at some of the U-Tubes from Gone with the Wynns, they have pulled a Smart car to Alaska and back.

  If it's in-city, I really would suggest looking into electric car solutions, such as a SmartCar or a Mini Cooper.
