After receiving his B.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Najera obtained his M.D. at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois and pursued additional training in microsurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
