About us
People are attracted to Laura’s work by the uncanny accuracy, and her ability to reveal the soul and spirit of each animal. Her attention to colour and detail, and the manner in which she captures the look, presence and personality, brings them to life on paper. Each portrait becomes a cherished memory for the owner, reflecting the love and attachment that exists between them and their animal companion. Chalk pastels and special paper are the primary medium Laura elects to use, and each commission is guaranteed to the owner’s satisfaction. Each one of a kind portrait exemplifies her love of animals, and her knowledge and sensitivity to the characteristics and demeanours of the various breeds.
Laura has been working in the area of animal portraiture since 1985 and has produced a large number of original works that are displayed in the homes of animal lovers the world over. Her commissioned work includes Toshiba of Canada’s presentation to Ian Millar at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She was the official artist for the Purina Ralston Hall of Fame from 1996 -2006, for whom she illustrated the many heroic animals recognized each year for their bravery and intelligence, with each portrait being presented to the owners at an awards ceremony in Toronto, Ontario. She shows her work at the Royal Winter Fair every year and does other small shows and fairs in Ontario as her schedule permits.
Laura is a 1988 graduate of the Ontario College of Art (OCAD) in illustration and design. She shares a small hobby farm in Utopia, Ontario with her husband, two young children, three horses and six cats. An equestrian who enjoys training horses, cross country jumping, trail riding, and PNH, Laura spends as much time as possible with her horses when not drawing or caring for her family.
