  I'm taking lessons at Hancock Fabrics: http://www.paulassewingschool.com I'd also recommend starting with an easy to sew pattern. There a plenty of decent one that guide you step-by-step through them if you want to learn on your own, that's how I did my vest. I went to sewing class after that just to make sure I wasn't learning bad habits, etc.
