  There many reputable tattooists in Denver. Part of what you need to do though is find the tattooist that's right for YOU. First, I would take a look at this info on finding a good tattooist: http://tattoofinder.com/articles-and-answers/kb/article/118-Ten_Tips_to_Finding_a_Good_Tattooist_and_Studio Second, I would consider how much design development you need done or not, which would dictate the artistic skills and styles of the artist you work with. Third, I would take recommendations from friends (which you are doing good for you!). But as you do this, you need to keep in mind that most people are happy with their tattooist in the end. There is strong motivation for someone to like their tattoo (because it's such a permanent commitment), and therefor, to "like" their tattooist. What makes someone "qualified" to make a referral in this area? You'll need to answer that for yourself. If you would like me to recommend a tattooist to you, let me know (msg me). Happy Inking!

One of the books I was considering was Art by Tattooists by Jo Waterhouse, because SO has a background in studio arts, and would likely enjoy the exploration of tattoo art outside of skin itself.
