Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants is a great resource! I also love the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (and their Grow Native Nursery in the Veterans Garden ). Some common natives are available at most nurseries, though.
You, savvy or fledgeling cali-native gardener: any good LOCAL nurseries, aside from Theodore Payne? Seeking affordable Redbud. Thanks!!!

Grow Native Nursery in the Veterans Garden http://www.rsabg.org/gnn-westwood - the retail arm of Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens. Fantastic plants there and really nice people, too. Would have to inquire about redbud - Cercis occidentalis or Cercis canadensis?
