My boyfriend is visiting for a few days this summer, and in order to not annoy my roommates too much we were looking at staying in a hotel/hostel. We'd like to stay in San Jose, but San Francisco is also an option (I've already seen a few posts like this on their subreddit). Any ideas for inexpensive places we could stay for a few days?   I don't know anything about hostels/hotels in SJ, sorry - but if you do go to San Francisco, I can't recommend the [H-I hostels](http://sfhostels.com/) highly enough. Some have private rooms if you want alone time. I love the Fort Mason hostel and my boyfriend's had good experiences at one of the other two (I forget which). I've also had a pretty good experience at the Mosser Hotel near Union Square - nothing fancy, but very good for the price.
