This is a weird one for you guys.
Ginger has been getting a lot of sebaceous cysts in the last few years. The vets don't want to remove or express them (they don't seem to come back) without putting her under general, unless one ruptures and then they'll do it with a local.
So I've kind of made my peace with the fact that she has bumps and I need to ignore them unless they get weird (grow, rupture, etc.).
BUT, I've noticed a new problem and I just figured it out. I've been noticing an odd smell coming from her skin. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it hit me all of a sudden. It's a necrotic tissue smell. The same way the cysts smell when they rupture. But the thing is, it's coming from her skin in general, not just near cysts.
?? I feel stupid for realizing it just now but has anyone heard of anything like this? I'll tell our vet but they'll (it's a multi vet practice) probably just say there's nothing to do or it's nothing.
I've called around veterinary dermatologists in the area, but they tell me they don't treat skin issues like this... All they seem to focus on is allergy.
If a veterinary dermatologist doesn't deal with this particular skin issue, I'm not sure who I'm supposed to talk to.
