About us
My skills were developed while living for several years in Europe where I received training from two professional seamstresses. Living in smaller communities without shopping malls, I developed a passion for shopping local thrift shops and repurposing second-hand clothes.
Essentially, alteration is about refitting or reshaping. My clients come to me for many reasons. Some just lost or gained weight and need their clothes altered to fit. Others have an old favorite they just can’t let go of - something threadbare and in need of a complete revamp, or a new prom or wedding gown from an old one, or a suit or tuxedo that just needs a bit of work. Then there are costumes - for dance companies, theater groups, and performance artists - precision alteration is what matters.
What I do best and enjoy the most is solving the “RE” puzzle: refit, resize, reuse - the creative side of alteration. From the basics of hemming, taking clothes in/out, adjusting waists, straps, and sleeves, replacing zippers, waistbands, and buttons, and much, much more, my focus is using my creative skills to RE-alize the perfect fit.
I am also “RE”-ally honest. I am not a clothing designer nor tailor who makes clothes from scratch. I don’t take on work that I know I can’t do perfectly. If the project is not a comfortable fit, I will tell you up front.
My company name says it all: I’m an expert at “RE” - clothes altered perfectly. Fittings and pickup can be done by appointment at Nikki Jane's Boutique. I will make sure that you are comfortable with me and have no fear in leaving your special items with me.
