About us
Serving Portland since 1928. Our story began on September 5th, 1928 when 36 employees joined together to form a credit union. They created a true financial cooperative, each contributing what they could to help one another. Members were able to borrow at lower rates, enjoy higher earnings, and pay lower fees than they would at a corporate bank. After more than 90 years of safe and sound financial management by our member-owners, Advantis has grown to become Oregon’s 5th largest credit union, over 73,000 members strong. While we may have grown a great deal from our humble beginnings, our core purpose has remained the same: to help our members find security and success in their financial lives. We’re not-for-profit, so you save more. We’re not a big bank or a small bank – we’re a better way to bank! Advantis is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, owned by our members and dedicated to their financial success. Instead of returning earnings to corporate stockholders (like big banks do), we return them to our members in the form of better rates, lower fees, and more free services.
Can anyone recommend a Portland area credit union?

I've been a member of [Advantis](https://www.advantiscu.org/) for a bit now and I've had no problems with them thus far. They only have four or five branches, but I rarely need to go in to one, and since they're part of the co-op, it's pretty easy to take money out if I need to. Plus they have a pretty high interest rate (like 2.5%) on their fusion checking account.
