Good horse care became a talking point and soon became evident that it was a passion amongst these ladies!
In the USA, Theresa is a highly regarded John Lyons certified instructor and was BHS certified in previous years. She spent many years working in Spain and Portugal as well as the UK and over decades of loving research, she tailored methods which simplified the Masters' teachings - showcasing riding and equestrianism as the artform it was intended. These teachings are not original, but beautiful reminders of how Classical riding can be a solid foundation to any discipline.
Back in the UK, Alex was backing her youngster... she tried many training methods (Western, English, Natural horsemanship) but still struggled with a bolshy horse on the ground, a bucking, rushing horse in the saddle and resigned to the fact it would just take time (and more lunging!) to take the energy out of this horse!
Alex was anxious of riding in an open, outdoor arena...she wouldn't hack out alone and was fed up with being a "novice". Instructors used side reins, spurs, a double bridle on the horse and nothing was improving.
Theresa called her...
Alex was asked to take away the saddle...take away the bit...take away any "gadgets" and to get into the outdoor arena and hop on!
So here it began!
The leg was taken away completely and communication was opened up using the hands only. High hands exaggerated the seat and allowed horse and rider to learn with ease.
Within 8 months of "taking a step back" and re-teaching the basics, both Alex and her horse had a strong partnership. Able to ride bareback on hacks, ride bridle-less at any time and working at liberty, these methods provided the tools Alex needed to keep her horse happy, healthy and engaged. Alex's riding improved through balance, softness and understanding.
Alex and her horse could reintroduce the saddle and bridle with a good seat, light hands, no leg required. Balance and softness was... show more
introduced in way it had not been felt previously. The horse was starting to "self carry" and open up.
ALL of this was done via video call between the USA and UK!
Alex and Theresa decided in 2017 to start an online training academy - to help other horses and riders who want to improve their relationship, understanding and progress with their horse.
The easy-to-follow, easy-to-understand instruction makes it invaluable to any equestrian.
