About us
[ Where it begins ]
In the 13th Century, the greatest land conquest in world history occurred under the rule of Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire was born. The Mongolian army’s daily meal was tenderised strips of meat carried with the warriors on horseback. After battle, the Mongols would go hunting with lance and bow and arrow. The meat, quickly frozen by the chilled air on the arid steps was thinly sliced and barbecued on their metal war shields. Slender branches from trees were used to toss the food – a kind of Mongolian chopstick. This meal came to be known as their “Victory Meal”, and has been passed down to the present day by their descendants. Today, the war shield is now a standardised round plate, still true to the original shape and metal. The small branches are now the elongated chopsticks used by our chefs.
The Genghis Khan Mongolian BBQ Restaurant now invites you to join us and eat in the manner of these great warriors, no matter what the occasion.
The Genghis Khan Restaurant has been trading since 1983, we locally source our vegetables and meats.
[ The Concept ] to create your unique stir fry
Take a bowl and help yourself to the noodles and the fresh cut vegetables of you choice. Add the meat of your choice - beef, lamb, chicken or pork; or any of the combination.
Then the sauces and spices of your choice. From our experience you will learn the combination most tasty for you.
Finally, hand the bowl to our chef who will cook the food in just a minute on our gas-fired barbecue.
Watch and wait, then return to your table with your bowl. The waiter will bring you our special Mongolian bread rolls ‘Shao Ping’ baked freshly every morning. These are tasty filled with the barbecue.
Anyone know of a all you can eat buffet in Wellington or know of any good places to eat at for a 21st dinner and is suitable for kids and groups of people?
