  I don't know much about hotels/motels in Boston except that they can be extremely pricey. When I was in college my family usually stayed outside of the city for move-in or if they came to visit, but the one time they stayed in the city they stayed at the Midtown Hotel (http://www.midtownhotel.com). It seems like the cheapest thing in the city, and they didn't have any problems with it. It's right by Northeastern, so there's a few bars really close, Boylston/Back Bay bars are all within a 20 minute walk, and Fenway is about the same distance. Have you tried looking into airbnb or couchsurfing?
